Generic Requirements: SAPS: Heavy Duty Truck Drivers

  • Applicants must display competency in the post-specific core functions of the post
  • Be fluent in at least two of the official languages, of which one must be English
  • Be in possession of a Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate (Vocational) recorded on the National Learner Record Database on NQF level 4
  • Be in possession of at least a valid driver’s license
  • Be a South African Citizen
  • Must have no previous criminal / departmental convictions or criminal / departmental cases pending
  • Must not have any tattoo marks which will be visible when wearing any uniform of the Service
  • Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security screening and fingerprint verification
  • Applicants must have interpersonal communication (verbal and written)
  • Be able to work under pressure as well as extended hours.

Additional Post Requirements

  • Have at least 3-4 years driving experience
  • Be in possession of code EB, C1, C, EC1 and EC driver’s license as well as Public Drivers Permit.

Core Functions

  • Ensure the administration of armoured vehicle fleet
  • Ensure the administration of operational vehicle fleet
  • Manage and coordinate transport support
  • Ensure the transportation of vehicles, equipment and personnel nationally
  • Prepare and pack vehicles for transport purposes as per requests of clients
  • Ensure the loading and off-loading of equipment/vehicles
  • Ensure the proper inspection and maintenance of vehicles
  • Report losses or any damages on vehicles
  • Assist with the formulating of policy and standard instructions and procedures relating to the mobilisation of the allocated vehicle fleet
  • Ensuring compliance of National Instruction 4 of 2011, State Vehicles and National Instruction 2 of 2022, Armoured Vehicles
  • Manage the registration, certification and utilisation of the vehicle fleet allocated to Mobilisation Support
  • Manage the maintenance of the allocated vehicle fleet of Mobilisation Support
  • Provide performance and implementation reports on activities of the Specialised Fleet to the Section Head: Mobilisation Support for inclusion in the Annual Report of the SAPS
  • Ensure adherence to the Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS)

General: SAPS: Heavy Duty Truck Drivers

  • Only the official application form will be accepted. The Z83 previously utilized will no longer be accepted. All instructions on the application form must be adhered to. Failure to do so may result in the rejection of the application. The SAPS application forms can also be obtained from any SAPS Recruitment Office within the South African Police Service.
  • The post particulars and reference number of the post must be correctly specified on the application form
  • A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae as well as uncertified copies of an applicant’s ID, Senior Certificate and all educational qualifications obtained, service certificates of previous employers stating the occupation, proof of relevant experience in the field of the post and motor vehicle driver’s license must be submitted together with the application form.
  • Original documentations of short-listed candidates must be produced during the selection process as requested. Qualifications and driver’s licences submitted will be subjected to verification checking with the relevant institutions. Late applications will not be accepted or considered.
  • If a candidate is short-listed, it can be expected of him/her to undergo a personal interview as well as a practical assessment. Reference checking will be conducted on all short-listed candidates.
